BISI and Deutsche Orient-Gesellschaft (German Oriental Society) DOG Visiting Iraqi Scholarships
Starting in 2013, the BISI will offer a joint visiting Iraqi scholarship with the Deutsche Orient-Gesellschaft (German Oriental Society) DOG. Scholars will spend half of their placement in the UK and half of it in Germany. The scholarship is aimed at young Iraqi cultural heritage professionals, who could benefit academically, as well as intellectually by travelling to both Germany and the UK. Preference is given to scholars in the field of pre-modern Iraq.
Only 1 DOG-BISI scholarship is offered per year.
The DOG-BISI scholarships allow scholars to:
- spend up to two months in the UK and Germany;
- undertake a specific research or training project;
- build relations with scholars in the UK and Germany;
- participate in a suitable programme designed for each recipient;
- and to work with mentors arranged by BISI and DOG.
These scholarships cover:
- institutional fees (e.g. university access and library usage but not tuition fees);
- housing (usually with a family) and a daily allowance for living expenses (per diems);
- all travel expenses, including visas;
- and emergency travel insurance.
These scholarships will not:
- pay any salary expenses;
- fund any full time university courses;
- pay for any routine dental or medical expenses.
Awards of scholarships may occasionally be made to more senior academics under the same conditions.
