Aga Khan Visiting Professorship, Middle East Studies, Brown University, Providence — LIMITE : 15/01/2014

The Middle East Studies Initiative at Brown University invites applications from early career scholars (assistant professors or other recent PhDs) for the 2014-2015 Aga Khan Visiting Professorship in Islamic Humanities. Geographical focus and chronological period are open.  Academic specialization can be in any discipline in the humanities, including history, as well as the humanistic dimensions of anthropology and sociology. The Visiting Professor will be required to teach one course of his or her choosing per semester, deliver a public lecture, and participate in the intellectual life of Brown University in general and Middle East Studies in particular.

As a significant new university initiative, Middle East Studies at Brown seeks to make knowledge production on the Middle East an integral part of intellectual life at Brown University by creating partnerships across areas and disciplines.  We especially welcome candidates who thrive in an interdisciplinary environment and who employ a range of methodologies in their research and teaching.

Candidates must have PhD in hand by the time this appointment begins on July 1, 2014.

To apply, please submit a cover letter that outlines your research interests and qualifications, a curriculum vitae, course proposals, and an article/chapter length writing sample to the online application portal via Interfolio at http://apply.interfolio.com/23514 .  Candidates should also arrange for three letters of reference to be submitted to the online application portal.  Applications received by January 15, 2014 will receive full consideration, but the search will remain open until the position is closed or filled.
