The Department of Religion and Theology invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the full-time position of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Global Religious Studies from September 2022.
The postholder will be expected (1) to contribute to the delivery of our undergraduate and MA programmes in Religion and Theology through seminars and lectures, and to supervise research postgraduates; (2) to pursue research to an internationally excellent level in her/his specialist area to enhance the research profile of the Department of Religion and Theology, and also of the School of Humanities and the Faculty of Arts; and (3) to undertake administrative responsibilities in the Department of Religion and Theology, and also in the School of Humanities and the Faculty of Arts.
Candidates with expertise in global Islam and/or the interactions and relations between Jews, Christians and Muslims historically and globally are particularly invited to apply. Candidates must demonstrate evidence of excellence in and commitment to both research and teaching, with, depending on their career stage, established or clear promise of distinguished publications in their field that will make a significant contribution to future UK research audits. The successful candidate will have the ability to communicate effectively with students in both small and large groups and to teach a range of courses in religious studies (including Islam) from the introductory to advanced levels.
A completed PhD related to the study of Islam, and good administrative, time management and IT skills are also essential.
