Visiting Fellowships
Research at the Centre is currently focused within the following broad areas:
- Classical Islamic sciences
- Muslim societies past and present
- Identity and citizenship (with special reference to Muslims in the West)
- Islamic finance and economic and human development
Applications are decided on the merits of the particular research the applicant is proposing to do or to complete, and scholars working in other areas are encouraged to apply.
Visiting Fellowships and Visiting Research Fellowships
Applications for Visiting Fellowships and Visiting Research Fellowships are now OPEN for the academic year 2022–23.
The Abdul Aziz Al-Mutawa and the Muhammad Bin-Ladin Visiting Fellowships
These two stipendiary Visiting Fellowships are awarded annually to support an extended period of independent study and research at Oxford. They carry an annual stipend of £5000.

The Imam Bukhari and the Imam Tirmizi Visiting Research Fellowship
These two stipendiary Visiting Research Fellowships are open to citizens of countries in Asia or Africa and are intended to encourage interaction among academics from different traditions of learning. They carry an annual stipend of £4000.

Scholar-in-Residence Awards
The Centre also welcomes applications for a limited number of non-stipendiary Scholar-in-Residence awards.
The application window will open in March 2022 for academic year 2022-23.
