H.M. King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein of Jordan Fellowship for the Study of Love in Religion, University of Oxford – Regent’s Park College — LIMITE : 09/04/2021
Regent’s Park College, a Permanent Private Hall within the University of Oxford, welcomes applications for the H.M. King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein of Jordan Fellowship for the Study of Love in Religion which will run for a term of five and one-half years from 1 September 2021. The post is situated at present within a wider project for the Study of Love in Religion at Regent’s Park College, a research programme of the Oxford Centre for Religion and Culture.
As a condition of the endowment, tenure of the Fellowship alternates between Christian scholars and Muslim scholars who satisfy the qualifications. The current holder of the Fellowship is a Christian scholar and so on this occasion the College will appoint a Muslim scholar who may be a specialist in any field of scholarship which permits them to research love in religion.
The post will include responsibilities for research and teaching in Oxford, and since the post-holder will be engaged in inter-faith relations and ministerial formation, applicants must have an active commitment to their faith tradition and have experience in relating to those of other faiths than their own.
Applicants must hold a degree at doctoral level together with a research record commensurate with their stage of career. It is a further condition that a Muslim scholar must also be fully competent in the rules of traditional hermeneutics and exegesis (tafsir) of the Qur’an and be certified as hafith. Fluency in English is essential.
While ordinarily the term for the Fellowship is five years, because of issues arising from the pandemic the College now seeks to appoint a new Fellow for a term of five and a half years, beginning from 1 September 2021 (though the start date is negotiable within reasonable bounds). Candidates will be considered at any stage of their academic career. The salary range is £29,976 to £36,976 (including housing allowance).
Application should be made by noon on Friday 09 April 2021. Full details are available on our website www.rpc.ox.ac.uk/vacancies and www.rpc.ox.ac.uk/research-life/project-study-love-religion.
Interviews will be held on Thursday 03 June.
