The Alwaleed Centre for the Study of Islam in the Contemporary World at the University of Edinburgh seeks to appoint a Lecturer in the field of studies of the Globalised Muslim world to commence on 5th January 2021.
Applications are particularly welcome from candidates who demonstrate expertise researching and teaching the global, international or transnational aspects of contemporary Muslim societies (including Muslim-minorities). We also welcome candidates showing expertise conducting comparative research in different regions of the Muslim world, and particularly those regions which are not currently prominent in the research expertise of the Centre. The disciplinary background of the candidates should be in the social and political sciences broadly understood.
The Lecturer will make a contribution to the creation and delivery of the new MSc The Globalised Muslim World that will launch in the 2021/22 academic year. This interdisciplinary MSc will explore the unique characteristics of contemporary Muslim societies in a variety of majority and minority contexts, encouraging students to critically analyse the major global, international and transnational trends and movements which cut across borders and unite Muslims across the world. Core courses to be designed by the Lecturer include ‘Regional Perspectives in a Globalised Muslim World’ and ‘International, Transnational and Globalised Dynamics of the Muslim World’.
This is a full-time position, on a 3-year fixed-term non-renewable basis.
Salary scale is Grade UE08, £41,526 to £49,553 per annum.
