Research Associate (Fixed Term) / University of Cambridge – HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Centre of Islamic Studies — LIMITE : 19/04/2020

The University of Cambridge is seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research and Outreach Associate to design and conduct original research into Islamic art, aesthetics and/or material culture in the Centre of Islamic Studies, to begin in September 2020.
The post is a three-year, fixed-term position.
The postdoctoral associate will be involved in researching Arabic and Persian manuscripts in the collections of the University Library and The Fitzwilliam Museum’s Founder’s Library. Expert knowledge of the two languages and Islamic codicology are, therefore, two essential requisites. Academic projects and publications that stem from this research are expected in the duration of the post. At the Centre of Islamic Studies, we hope to collaborate with colleagues on outreach activities at our partner-institution, the Alwaleed Centre at the University of Edinburgh. A potential collaborative activity could come in the form of a joint exhibition on manuscripts in Cambridge’s collections and special collections housed in Edinburgh’s University Library.
