Full Professorship in Modern Arab History, Arab-American Educational Foundation, University of Houston (Etats-Unis) — LIMITE : 01/12/2013

The Department of History at the University of Houston invites applications for the Arab­ American Educational Foundation Professorship in Modern Arab History at the full professor level. The chair will play an instrumental role in the development of Arabic Studies at UH and will be actively involved with the local community through facilitating community events. Candidates for the position should be working in the post 1798 time period. Applicants for this position should have native or near native proficiency in Arabic and English, and knowledge of another Middle Eastern language or European language.  The research specialization is open, and we welcome a wide range of subfields within Modern Arab History.

Responsibilities will include teaching lower level undergraduate survey courses covering the field, upper division courses in the candidate’s area of specialization, and graduate courses in Arab history. Candidates with a focus on one of the department’s various thematic strengths (Energy, Environment, and Urban Development; Ethnicity and Race; Gender, Women, and Family; War, Revolution, Diplomacy, and Politics; or Medicine and Technology) and/or the Digital Humanities are encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will have a distinguished record of publication and professional service commensurate with appointment to an endowed professorship. The teaching load is two courses per semester.
