POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER POSITION
for a one-year period, starting February 1st, 2019 (or as agreed).
We are looking for candidates whose research themes are relevant for the overall goal of the research center, which is to analyze and understand the role of religion(s) in different conflicts and their solutions. A special emphasis of the center´s research profile is on issues of gender. The center wishes to launch a research tradition, which combines peace and conflict research, study of religion (including theology) and gender studies.
We are especially interested in receiving applications from the Eurasia region or relevant to the region. Research on religious freedom, minority and human rights – especially women´s rights – in relation to religion, and how these are related to social and political conflicts in the Eurasia region, is preferred. We are interested in applicants who are willing and able to bridge academia and public policy work and whose work is linked to conflict resolution at grassroots level.

The Faculty educates experts in religious traditions, worldviews and values. Our mission is to offer best scholarly expertise in historical, conceptual, and cultural issues related to religion and theology. We are committed to conducting research into individual, cultural and social significance of religion in past and present in order to generate in-depth understanding of major changes in contemporary Europe and globally, such as multiculturalism, religious extremism, inter-faith dialogue, value pluralism and the future of welfare. The Faculty has received high marks in international research evaluations and exercises active cooperation with similar leading research institutes. The Faculty of Theology provides an inspiring multidisciplinary context for postdoctoral studies.
The appointee to the postdoctoral researcher position must hold a doctoral degree (completed before beginning in the position) in a field relevant for the research project (peace and conflict studies, study of religion and/or theology, gender studies).Excellent communication skills in spoken and written English and ability to conduct independent scholarly work are required. In addition, postdoctoral researcher is expected to teach 5–10 % of annual workload 1,624 hours.
The salary is based on the salary system of the Finnish universities for teaching and research staff. The gross monthly salary will be approximately €3,500-3,800, depending on the appointee’s qualifications and other merits. In addition, occupational health care will be provided. The appointment starts with a probationary period of three months.

The evaluation of applications is based on the scientific merits and other academic qualifications as well as the significance of the research proposal for the goals of the RCD center. Applicants who come into closer consideration will possibly be interviewed (on line if necessary).
The funding is based on an agreement with the Open Society Foundation.
