The Faculty of Arts and Humanities invites applications for a

Full Professorship “Islamic Religious Education and Practical Theology” (W3)

starting 1 October 2019.

The successful candidate’s research work and teaching will focus on the diversity of religious practices in the context of our constantly changing modern world. This professorship will be responsible for the training of teachers of religious education and, to this end, takes into account the diversity of religious experiences on the part of Muslim children and young adults, as well as the plurality of Islamic concepts of identity. In addition to an interreligious pedagogical approach, a focus on gender issues in the school context is also desirable; questions of community pedagogy and general pastoral care / religious welfare should also be addressed. A willingness to cooperate with related fields at the Humboldt-Universität is a requirement.

With respect to teaching, the successful candidate is expected to contribute to the structure of the Bachelor’s programmes, the Master’s programmes in Islamic Theology (in particular with teacher training option) and the Master’s programme “Islam und Gesellschaft”, as well as to the envisaged doctoral programme.

The successful candidate will also be required to support the establishment and self-administration of the Berlin Institute for Islamic Theology.

The applicants must meet the legal requirements for professorial appointments in accordance with § 100 of the ‘Berliner Hochschulgesetz’.
