The Department of Middle Eastern South Asian and African Studies at Columbia University announces an opening in Arabic language instruction to be filled at the rank of Lecturer in Discipline, beginning July 1, 2019.

We are seeking a professional language teacher with a serious commitment to teaching languages for academic purposes while developing pedagogical materials and incorporating technological innovations into the curriculum. Applicants whose fields of specialty are Arabic language, linguistics or related field are welcome to apply. Responsibilities will include teaching 2 or 3 courses per semester and other duties associated with the language program. This is a full-time appointment with multi-year renewals contingent on successful reviews.

Preference will be given to applicants who have a Ph.D., but those with a Master’s degree and considerable language teaching experience are also encouraged to apply. Salary and rank commensurate with experience. Native or near-native fluency in Arabic and English, foreign language instruction experience, and an oral proficiency based approach are required.
