Five-year term as editor of the Journal of Global South Studies (JGSS) starting January 2019 – Until the position is filled

The Editor Search Committee of the Association of Global South Studies (AGSS) invites applications, as well as nominations, for a five-year term as editor of the Journal of Global South Studies (JGSS) starting January 2019.  The editor of the journal shall be appointed and/or reappointed by the Executive Council.  The JGSS publishes original peer-reviewed articles and a variety of book reviews.

The editor is responsible for working with six associate editors: five regional editors (Africa, Asia, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East) and the book review editor.  The editor is responsible for accepting or rejecting manuscripts, guiding manuscripts through the review process, and working to submit completed journals twice per year to the University Press of Florida.  The AGSS will subsidize a one-class release per semester, capped at $10K annually, at the editor’s academic home institution.

Candidates should be recognized scholars with a background and interests relevant to Global South Studies. Applicants should also possess managerial and organizational skills, as well as publishing/editorial experience.  The current editor will produce the Spring 2019 issue.  The new editor will begin to receive manuscripts shortly after being appointed and will be responsible for the Fall 2019 issue.

The Editor Search Committee encourages prompt submission of nominations and applications so that candidates may be considered and contacted about their interest in applying.  At that point, applicants will be provided with a more detailed list of the editor’s responsibilities.  Applicants should send a letter of intent and a current curriculum vitae to Dr. Lauren Eastwood, chair of the Editor Search Committee, at lauren.eastwood@plattsburgh.edu.  The subject heading of the email should read: “JGSS Editor Search.”   The Editor Search Committee will begin the review of applications on 1 August 2018, and the process will continue until the position is filled.  All questions regarding the editor search should be directed to Dr. Eastwood.
