The department of Theology and Religious Studies is looking to recruit a Senior Lecturer in Islamic Studies. The department at Chester has experts in a range of approaches to the study of theology and religion, but we have a particular strength and focus in religious studies and theology that focuses on the empirical study of religion, faith, belief and spirituality as it is lived and practised in the contemporary world.

The department is looking to recruit an expert in Islamic Studies to contribute to undergraduate and MA teaching as well as the supervision of doctoral students.

The appointee to this post should be research active with a strong record of publication and clear trajectory of research projects and publications over the next five years. You will be an excellent teacher and communicator and have a demonstrable capacity to work collaboratively with academic colleagues in the department and those in collaborative partnerships and other external agencies. Over the next twelve months, the department is looking to develop a new BA in Philosophy, Religion and Ethics and so the ability to teach modules in Islamic philosophy or philosophy of religion would be an advantage. Applications expressing an interest in some of the many ways Islam is lived and practiced in the contemporary world will also be viewed positively.
