Senior Lecturer in Cultural Policy, University of Jyväskylä, Jyväskylä (Finlande) — LIMITE : 31/05/2015

The University of Jyväskylä is a nationally and internationally significant research university and an expert on education that focuses on human and natural sciences. The University is Finland’s leading expert in teacher education and adult education, as well as the major exporter of education. The Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences is the only one in the country. The University of Jyväskylä is known for its dynamic operating culture and strong commitment to social responsibility.

A Senior Lecturer, Cultural Policy, fixed-term position, beginning January 1st 2016, until August 31st 2019

The vacant is allocated to the Department of Social Sciences and Philosophy. The Department operates at all degree levels of university teaching and has its particular strengths in doctoral studies. It houses the disciplines of Sociology, Social and public policy, Gender studies, Social work, Political science, and Philosophy. In addition to this, Master’s degrees are also completed in the programmes in Development and International Cooperation, Expertise in Civic Society, and Cultural Policy.

Cultural Policy is a social science based multi discipline research and study programme, which offers nationally known Cultural Policy Master’s programme and Doctoral programme. Teaching is given in Finnish and in English. The research of Cultural Policy is linked with the research areas of the Department of Philosophy and Social Sciences. Students are offered courses in cultural policy, and in addition they can choose to specialize in one of the major subject areas at the Department of Social Sciences and Philosophy. The program leads to a Master of Social Sciences or Philosophy and it qualifies graduates for doctoral level studies. The focus in the program remains in the ways in which culture in a wider sense changes and shapes the lives of the people. This includes changes in language, education, politics and policy and economy. Cultural changes are analyzed also in art production, art institutions and media.

The emphasis in the position is in teaching of the international cultural policy master’s program (lectures, workshops, counselling of thesis and practice), development of new teaching methods and platforms and scientific research connected to the field. The participation to the development of the master’s program and teaching are part of the tasks.

Senior Lecturer positions require a full command of the teaching language, Finnish. When considered appropriate, the university can grant exemption from the language proficiency requirements. The teaching language in this position is mainly English. Senior lecturer is required to have excellent command of English and ability to teach in English.

Work requires active international networking and publishing. Success in acquiring external funding is regarded as a merit.

Senior lecturers job-specific salary component is based on the job demands level 05-07 according to the salary system concerning teaching and research personnel at universities (2852,00-3834,84 €/month). In addition, a personal performance-based salary component amounting to the maximum of 46,3% of the job-specific salary component is also paid.

Four months trial period is applied to the filling of the position.
