The British Library leads and collaborates in growing the world’s knowledge base. We are engaged in a major partnership to make thousands of digitised historic documents and manuscripts – relating to centuries of history of the Gulf – available online to researchers, scholars and the general public across the Gulf region and around the world.
This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of the team creating metadata and contextual information for the papers in the India Office Records and Private Papers documenting the political, economic and social history of the Gulf from the late eighteenth to the mid twentieth century. You will be responsible for cataloguing the archival Gulf History collections, noting copyright and data protection issues and recording material of particular interest to academic and wider audiences. You will also advise other team members on Arabic documents and the historical context of the Gulf History material.
You will have excellent written Arabic language skills and experience reading historic Arabic documents. You will also have a strong commitment to developing your understanding of our archives relating to the Gulf and their historical and geographical context and ideally an excellent knowledge of the history of the Middle East. Good oral and written communication skills in English will be essential. With a proven ability to work independently and collaboratively, and a track record of meeting deadlines, you will be crucial to the success of this programme.
Closing Date: 25th May 2015
