1 year Postdoctoral Fellowship on Islamist Movements in the Middle East, Rice University, Houston (États-Unis) — LIMITE : URGENT

Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy is seeking a one-year postdoctoral fellowship on Islamist movements in the Middle East beginning fall 2015. The scholar is expected to work independently to pursue his/her research agenda and report to the Institute’s Academic Affairs Director and the Institute’s Founding Director. Funding is expected to cover 12-month appointment, with the possibility of renewal for a second year. Applicants must have a PhD in a field related to the politics, history, and societies of the contemporary Middle East such as political science, international relations, or history.

Required skills:

  • Demonstrated deep understanding of Islamist political movements in one or more of the following contexts: Egypt, Turkey, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Libya, Tunisia, Morocco, and the relations of these movements to the policies of regional governments, the United States, and the broader international community.
  • Demonstrated ability to formulate policy recommendations, initiate and engage in creative approaches toward advancing policy, including the ability to initiate projects and balance multiple projects.
  • Sufficient knowledge of Arabic, Turkish and/or Persian to be able to engage with source materials in these languages.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to deal with people with sensitivity, tact, and professionalism.
