Director for its Medieval Programme, The British Institute of Persian Studies, Londres (Royaume-Uni) — LIMITE : 15/03/2015

The British Institute of Persian Studies is looking to appoint a Director for its Medieval Programme. The position lasts for 3 years, commencing from April 2015. The successful candidate should have a PhD, must be employed by a British higher education institution or museum, and demonstrate an ability to lead and coordinate projects and networks. The Medieval Programme is looking to build on the successes of the previous Director, Professor Charles Melville, whose activities included a number of conferences.

It is usual for the Programme Director to manage a budget of £3,000 per year for his/her own specific project. In addition he/she is responsible for overseeing an annual budget of £15,000 which is used to finance travel and research grants for scholars and students who apply to the Institute for assistance.

Applications for the post should be sent to Dr Lloyd Ridgeon, the Chair of the Research Committee. Informal approaches may also be made (Lloyd.ridgeon@glasgow.ac.uk). Please set out your plans for a new Medieval Programme in no less than 1500 words. For its purposes, BIPS considers the medieval period to start from the advent of Islam until the start of the Safavid dynasty. The successful applicant should demonstrate a willingness to include as many topics and disciplines as possible, whilst remaining coherent. BIPS is also looking to engage with other academic institutions, possibly leading to joint ventures and initiatives.

Applications close on 15 March 2015.
