Call for panels and papers
Following BRAIS’s very successful inaugural conference in Edinburgh in April 2014, the organisers now invite proposals for whole panels or individual papers on any aspect or sub-discipline of Islamic Studies, for the Second Annual Conference of BRAIS. Islamic
Studies is broadly understood, to include all aspects of the study of Islam and Muslims, past and present, in both Muslim-majority and Muslim-minority contexts.
Pre-arranged panels are particularly welcome on themes within the subject, such as:
· Qur’anic Studies
· Law
· History, Medieval and Modern
· Philosophy and Theology
· Intellectual History
· Spirituality
· History of Art
· History of Science
· Diversity within Islam
· Economics and Finance
· Education
· Gender Studies
· Islam in the Media
· Human Rights
· Interreligious Relations
· Muslims in Britain/Europe/the West · Islam in Asia and Africa
Individual proposals will also be considered, and, if accepted, will then be grouped with similar submissions by the conference organisers. This year’s conference will include Human Rights as one of its themes.
For panels, a 200-word outline of the theme of the panel, together with 200-word abstracts of each paper and a short biography of each presenter, should be submitted using the form which is available HERE.
Completed forms should be sent by email attachment to brais@ed.ac.uk by 5pm (UK time) on Monday 1 December.
For individual papers, a 200-word abstract of the paper, with a short biography of the presenter, should be submitted using the form which is available HERE.
Completed forms should be sent by email attachment to brais@ed.ac.uk by 5pm (UK time) on Monday 1 December.
Notification of accepted panels and papers will be circulated in January 2015.
