The University of Exeter, College of Social Sciences and International Studies, Institute of Arab & Islamic Studies invites applications for a Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Arabic Literature (Education and Research) (Ref: P31249). The post of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Arabic Literature will contribute to extending the research profile of Middle East Studies in the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies at Exeter, particularly in areas related or complementary to early and classical Islamic thought. The Institute is particularly eager to recruit candidates with expertise in one or more of the following: pre-twentieth century Arabic Literature, aesthetics, poetry, rhetoric, and belles-lettres. We will also consider highly qualified specialists in Modern Arabic Literature and cultural studies. Applicants must be qualified to PhD level in Arabic or Arabic Literature or a closely related discipline, have native or near-native proficiency in Modern Standard Arabic and be able to demonstrate a strong potential for research leadership with a track record in refereed publications and involvement in submitting successful grant applications.
The successful applicant will also be expected to contribute to teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a strong record in attracting research funding, or demonstrable potential to attract such funding, teamwork skills to work in collaboration with existing group members, an active and supportive approach inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary research that will help to foster interactions and links both within the University and externally, the attitude and ability to engage in continuous professional development, the aptitude to develop familiarity with a variety of strategies to promote and assess learning and enthusiasm for delivering undergraduate programmes.
