The Department of History, Philosophy and the Social Sciences (HPSS) at Rhode Island School of Design invites applications for the position of assistant professor in Modern Middle Eastern history, starting in 2015-16 with the prospect for advancement. The successful candidate will have an ability to cover a different region of Asia or Africa as well. Preference will be given to a flexible teacher/scholar who can offer a range of undergraduate courses including areas of secondary specialization. We would welcome a variety of these, including but not limited to: gender studies, secularism and religious movements, ethnicity and nationalism, diaspora studies, and historiography.
HPSS is a multi-disciplinary department located within the Liberal Arts Division of the Rhode Island School of Design. Our students are art and design majors who take a significant portion of their BFA requirements in the Liberal Arts. We seek candidates with teaching experience and a PhD in History or Middle East Studies in hand by September 2015. Full-time faculty at RISD teach six courses a year.
