Temporary Research Assistant in Arab and Islamic Studies, Aarhus University (Danemark) — LIMITE : 03/11/2014
The Department of Culture and Society invites applications for a temporary teaching position as research assistant in Arab and Islamic Studies. It is a full-time position (37 hours weekly), limited to the period from 15th of January 2015 to the 15th of June 2015. The Spring term begins 1st of February 2015, and the required teaching load is two to three undergraduate courses on the history, politics and/or society of the modern Middle East and/or on Islam.
Qualifications
Applicants must have a documented MA in Arabic and / or Islamic Studies or a similar subject. Applicants are also expected to:
– be well-founded in Arabic or a comparable language such as Turkish or Malay
– have documented qualifications in the history, politics or society
of the modern Middle East
– have documented qualifications in the study of Islam
– have teaching experience with seminar classes and innovative teaching
– have experience with student supervision
– have strong oral and written communicative skills
– have teaching experience with Islam and/or Arab-Islamic history and/or society
– have experience in teaching in English or a Scandinavian language
– have experience with or an interest in interdisciplinary cooperation.
The applicant must submit teaching portfolio such as list of courses taught, sample course outline, student evaluations. The applicant is also expected to contribute actively to the various disciplines and the department’s academic environment. We value regular attendance and provide a supportive work environment for staff as well as students. The application must be submitted in English. The position is open to applicants of any citizenship. No knowledge of Danish is required; teaching will be conducted in English if the successful applicant does not know a Scandinavian language.
