Faculty Position, Ethnomusicology, New York University Abu Dhabi — LIMITE : 02/12/2014

NYU Abu Dhabi is currently inviting applications for an open-rank tenured/tenure-track position in Ethnomusicology. Preference will be given to specialists of any historical period focusing on the Middle Eastern region writ broadly (North Africa and Egypt, East Africa, Turkey, Iran, the Arabian Peninsula, and the Levant).

We are seeking ethnomusicologists with an active research and publishing agenda, and a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate teaching. The Music Program at NYUAD is committed to educating a new generation of musicians capable of understanding and making music on a transnational and interdisciplinary scale in an eclectic yet rigorous fashion. Students majoring in music acquire skills in composition, technology, and performance while developing a wide-scope theoretical, historical, and cultural perspective. The terms of employment are competitive and include housing and educational subsidies for children. Members of NYU Abu Dhabi standing faculty receive generous support for research and travel. The teaching load is three undergraduate courses per year (semester system), including at least one in the core curriculum. Faculty may also spend an occasional semester at NYU New York and sites of the global network, engaging in both research and teaching opportunities. The appointment will begin as soon as September 2015, with a later start date possible, pending candidate availability.
