Full Professor/Junior Professor for Israel and Middle East Studies Hochschule fur Judische Studien, Heidelberg (Allemagne) — LIMITE : 11/07/2014

The Hochschule für Jüdische Studien Heidelberg (HfJS) in cooperation with the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg invites applications for the Ben Gurion Chair, Endowed by the State of Baden-Württemberg for Israel and Middle East Studies as a Full Professor/Junior Professor (W 3/W 1 pay)   In a non-tariff employed position for a maximum of five years, depending on the candidates qualifications, at the earliest possible date.
The candidate should be prepared to represent the sub-discipline Israel and Middle East Studies broadly in research and teaching as a joint appointment of the Hochschule für Jüdische Studien Heidelberg and the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg. Candidates are expected to be familiar with the history of the Middle East and Israel and the contemporary political situation in both countries, to include interdisciplinary approaches in their work, and to be able to cooperate in research and teaching with the Hochschule, the University and their respective partners.
Candidates should also be prepared to teach in and develop the English-language Joint Degree Master program Israel Studies of the HfJS and the Ben Gurion University in Beer Sheva, Israel, which the HfJS will offer beginning in the winter semester 2014/15.   Employment requirements other than general prerequisites pertaining to service law include a university degree with an attested focus on Israel and Middle East Studies, commitment to teaching and proof of excellent scholarly engagement in the form of a qualified Ph.D.
Requirements for the full (W 3) position also include the Habilitation according to § 47.2 of the Landeshochschulgesetz or a comparable level of qualification or a successful evaluation of a Juniorprofessur position. In addition, we expect profound knowledge of English and Hebrew. Knowledge of Arabic is desirable.   We expect the candidate to be able to teach in English, to become a visible part of the academic community, to contribute to the self-administration of the Hochschule, to cooperate with the University of Heidelberg, to actively expand the field of Israel and Middle East Studies, and to raise third-party funding for pertinent research projects.   The teaching load for a junior professor will be four hours a week before evaluation, six hours afterwards, and nine hours for a full professor.
The Hochschule für Jüdische Studien Heidelberg seeks to increase the proportion of female academics where they are hitherto underrepresented and strongly encourages qualified women to apply. Severely disabled candidates will be preferred when equally qualified.
