(Association Internationale de Dialectologie Arabe)

Bucharest, May 25-30, 2015


Welcome to the 11th Conference of AIDA which will be held at the University of Bucharest, Romania, in the days of May 25-30, 2015. AIDA (Association Internationale de Dialectologie Arabe), founded in 1993, in Paris, with the aim to encourage and promote the study of Arabic dialects, is nowadays the leading international association in this field of research and it has become a center that joins scholars from all over the world who are interested in any aspect of Arabic dialectology.

Fee
► Conference fee: €100.
►AIDA membership fee: € 30.

Theme
Papers on all sub-fields of Arabic dialectology are welcome: dialects which have not been described yet, dialectal geography, specific aspects of phonology morphology and syntax, code-switching, koiné language, pidgin, creole, the lexicon of Arabic dialects, dialectal atlases, comparative and diachronic studies, sociolinguistics, teaching of Arabic dialects, and so on.

Paper presentation
Each participant shall deliver a 20-minute paper presentation, which will be followed by a 10-minute question and answer session.The conference halls will be equipped with basic audio-video equipment (such as projectors, projection screens, speaker and microphone systems).

Conference languages
The languages of the conference will be:  Arabic, English, and French.

Abstracts
Please submit the abstract by e-mail as soon as possible but not later than October 30, 2014.
Send the abstract (including your name, complete affiliation and position – as both .doc /.docx and .pdf documents to aida11bucuresti@gmail.com.
If the paper has more than one author, when sending the abstract, please include the names of all the authors, their complete affiliations and positions.
The text of each abstract – written in Arabic, English or French and not exceeding 300 words – should clearly highlight the results of the research to be presented in the paper and their context.  The abstracts of the accepted communications will be published in the abstract booklet of the conference.

Funding for young scholars
25 young scholars, upon selection by the Executive Board of AIDA, will be offered financial support by AIDA (amounting to a maximum of 200 € per person) to cover the travel/conference fee.
Young scholars who are interested in applying for the conference participation grant (travel and/or conference fee support) should submit their applications (including abstracts and affiliations) via e-mail directly to one of the members of the Executive Board of AIDA:

Awarding travel and/or conference fee support will be on the basis of eligibility criteria set by AIDA (see http://www.aida.or.at/admin/membership.aspx), and on ‘first come first served’ basis. Requests for financial support submitted to AIDA later than 30 October 2014 will not be taken into consideration.

Further important information
A second circular will be sent to all those who have responded to the first circular. The second circular will provide further details, including information on accommodation and means of conference fee payment.
