Adam Hanieh ist Direktor des SOAS Middle East Institute, MBI Jaber Chair of Middle East Studies sowie Professor im Department of Development Studies an der SOAS University of London. Seine Forschung beschäftigt sich mit dem Zusammenspiel von fossilen Energieträgern, Kapitalismus und der Klimakrise, insbesondere mit Fokus auf die Golfstaaten des Nahen Ostens. Er ist Autor mehrerer Bücher, darunter Money, Markets, and Monarchies: The Gulf Cooperation Council and the Political Economy of the Contemporary Middle East (CUP, 2018) sowie Crude Capitalism: Oil, Corporate Power, and the Making of the World Market (Verso, 2024).
