Postdoctoral Fellow in Classical Islamic Traditions, University of California, Santa Barbara (Etats-Unis) — LIMITE : 22/05/2014
Postdoctoral Fellow in Classical Islamic Traditions
The Department of Religious Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara seeks to appoint a Faculty Fellow in Islamic Studies. This fellowship has a term of one year. It offers recent recipients of the Ph.D. (awarded between January 1, 2012, and June 30, 2014) a unique opportunity to develop their research and teaching interests within the Department of Religious Studies and the Center for Middle East Studies.
The Faculty Fellow appointment is designed for a recent Ph.D who has not held the rank of Assistant Professor. The Fellow will teach four courses on the classical Islamic traditions: the Qur’an, hadith, tafsir, usul al-fiqh, etc. We strongly prefer at least one course taught from primary texts in Arabic. We are especially interested in candidates who can teach from a source-critical, historical approach to the classical Islamic traditions. Courses will be offered at the introductory, intermediate and advanced (graduate) levels. A Ph.D. in Religious Studies or in Near Eastern or Middle Eastern Studies is required. This is a temporary appointment.
Fellowship award provides an annual salary of $50,000. The award also includes health, vision and dental benefits, and up to $2,000 for research related and conference travel expenses.
The Committee will begin reviewing applications on May 23, 2014. Applications, including a letter of interest, a CV, and two letters of recommendation should be sent to the Classical Islamic Traditions Committee at https://recruit.ap.ucsb.edu/apply/JPF00299. Questions may be addressed to Professor Kathleen Moore, at kmoore@religion.ucsb.edu.
The Department of Religious Studies is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and service.
The University of California is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, or any other characteristic protected by law including protected Veterans and individuals with disabilities.
