To mark the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War, an international conference is being organized by the International University of Sarajevo and supported by Yurtdisi Turkler ve Akraba Topluluklar Baskanligi. We are delighted to announce a jointly-organized conference to examine the causes and the short and long-term socio-political impact of World War I (WWI) in the post-Ottoman spaces and in the formation of the modern nation-states. The war made profound changes on the history of the 20th century. It also played a significant role in spreading the notion of nationalism in the region of the Balkans. It will examine social, economic, political and military impacts of the First World War on the international system. This conference will bring outstanding scholars together who are expert on the field. The conference will particularly focus on the global role of the Ottoman State during the war.
