Women’s Empowerment:
Post 2015 Policies at the Intersection of
Feminist Theology and Feminist Economics

LUNCH SIDE EVENT

Forty-seventh Session of the Commission on Population and Development

When: April 11, 2014, noon to 3 pm

Where: UNFPA, 605 3rd Ave, The Orange Café

The objective of this panel is to draw on three forthcoming, cutting-edge articles that will be published in Feminist Economics, to inform broader policy debates around the link between women’s empowerment, economics and religion. Participants on the panel will be asked to reflect on the following questions, moving from the specifics found in the papers to more general suggestions about how to inform the Post-2015 process in order to assure that women are empowered and can claim their rights.

  • How can discussions of the intersection between religion, economics, and sexual and reproductive health and rights inform the 2015 developmental context?
  • How do gender norms, and economic policies, shape women’s lived realities?
  • In the context of a focus on economics, why is assuring the centrality of sexual and reproductive health and rights key to women’s empowerment?
  • How can a faith perspective enhance policy effectiveness?
