The Sharmin and Bijan Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Iran and Persian Gulf Studies (CIPGS) at Princeton University invites applications for a postdoctoral position, starting in September 2014. This twelve-month position may be renewed for up to three years, subject to satisfactory performance. The successful candidate will be appointed through the Department of History. The Center pursues a comprehensively interdisciplinary approach to advancing understanding of Iran and the Persian Gulf, with special attention to the region’s role and significance in the contemporary world. Applicants should have completed a PhD within the last three years, and have a focus on one or more of the following: policy issues; contemporary domestic, socioeconomic and social/religious issues; foreign policy/diplomatic relations. The goal of the program is to support outstanding scholars of Iran and the wider Iranian world at an early stage of their careers and thus to strengthen the field of Iranian and Persian Gulf Studies in the United States and abroad.

In addition to their salary, postdoctoral researchers receive reimbursement (up to $3,000 per academic year) for research related expenses (books, conference travel expenses, etc.). They are responsible for their travel and moving arrangements and expenses, and for accommodation in Princeton.

Candidates must have completed all the requirements for the doctoral degree at the time of appointment. Scholars with PhD degrees from Princeton University are not eligible to apply. Postdoctoral Research Associates may not pursue another degree while in this appointment, nor may they hold any other fellowships or visiting positions concurrently. Appointment cannot be deferred to a later term.

Applications are reviewed both by specialists in the candidate’s academic discipline and by an interdisciplinary group of senior scholars. All Committee deliberations and decisions are confidential.
